What is this amazing photograph? On the left, a picture of mint leaves. On the right, a magnification of the actual oil sacs (white) on the leaf.  A Certified Pure Therapeutic-Grade (CPTG) essential oil of peppermint is a mighty thing!

With over 50 chemical constituents in its arsenal of properties it is used for a whole host of maladies and discomforts including: headache, digestion, circulation, pain relief, fever, allergies, and congestion. And it is absolutely essential for calming hives and edema—severe inflammation of the tissues—as I recently found out when I was covered in them. It is a life saver when the hives and inflammation are covering your neck, threatening to cut off your ability to breathe, as was a recent experience of mine.

One drop in the palm of my hands, soothed onto my neck and windpipe, already covered in a soft carrier oil (coconut, avocado, or emu oil; the best for inflammation) provided relief within 20 minutes.

Factoid: 1 drop of doTerra’s peppermint essential oil is equivalent to 28 cups of peppermint tea. No lie. doTerra’s is sourced from Washington State (just think how cool and soothing it is there) and is the purest I’ve ever used. The oil is steam-distilled from the leaves, stems and flower buds. You can use it topically, take 1-3 drops in a gel capsule, diffuse into the air, or put one drop in a pitcher of water and drink.

Allergies* be soothed!

April 18, 2010

Do you suffer from seasonal allergies? If so, this little kit could be a life saver. It contains one 5 ml bottle each of highest quality lavender, lemon, and peppermint. These are the top three oils you never want to be without for anything.

The lemon is from Italy, the lavender from Provence, France, and the peppermint from Washington State. I guarantee they are the purest essential oils you’ve ever experienced. What’s more, they are CPTG, which means Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade. Which means, yes, they may be ingested.

Take 3 drops of each (less if you are extremely sensitive) in a gel capsule with a full glass of filtered water, and within half an hour or less your itchy, watery eyes, congestion, or runny nose will be minimized, if not gone.

I tried this last year after suffering for two months and I was amazed at the results. I am never without these three oils, and I’m using them again this year to combat the invasive juniper pollen we have in northern New Mexico.

You can buy this Intro Kit (item #3218) for $26.67 + tax and shipping by clicking here. Read the directions below first before clicking!

The peppermint is excellent for cooling, but be careful, one drop equals 28 cups of peppermint tea, and essential oils are 70x more potent than dried herbs. Really! The lavender is the most useful oil to have and combats stress to bee stings. Take the lemon with you and put in your water at restaurants, use to oil furniture, spot stains, ingest and use topically to increase your antioxidant levels (citrus oils are great for this). The inside of the box gives lots of usage tips for these three oils, and there is an introductory audio CD as well.

* Extensive studies have shown that allergies are directly related to the digestive system. Eliminating gluten, corn, sugar, alcohol, and dairy from your diet will very likely lessen the affects of season allergies. Replacing these foods with lots of leafy greens, fresh lemon juice, and excellent quality olive oil will greatly help you. Your liver will especially appreciate it!

See The Mighty Cabbage page for more information on this.

Welcome to the garden of doTerra’s exceptional essential oils. I’ve been using these for a year now and they have done nothing but enhance my life in every way. So much to share, and I will, in time. But for today, a few thoughts on cold feet and what to do.

Even though it is spring now in the northern hemisphere my feet have still been really cold! What to do? I looked up “circulation” in my trusty guide and found the following oils to be some of the ones helpful for poor circulation: white fir, lemon, and geranium. I happened to have all three so used one drop of each with some coconut oil on the soles of my feet, bundled said feet up in fleecy socks and slippers, and voila! Within half an hour my feet were toasty and stayed that way for hours.
